Some people make the move abroad and then try to figure out how to make a living online. Others already make a living online and because of external circumstances need to move abroad. This is the case of a group of people I recently read about in an article on Business Insider.

If you are serious about living abroad or about to set off, you’ve certainly spent a huge amount of time on the Internet trying to find out how you could make a living online.  As a matter of fact, these people figured it out before even thinking about living in a foreign country.

Playa-Del-CarmenBack in 2011, the US government banned online poker in many States and online poker players were forced to either give up their activities or move abroad. In the following years, some of them decided to settle in Mexico in beach resorts such as Playa del Carmen near Cancun.

Mexico has had quite a development in terms of gambling with the relaxing of the laws in 2004. One of the first addition to the landscape was the Dubai Palace Casino, which is one of Mexico’s largest and one of the first places to be built in Cancun for anyone interested in playing poker, baccarat, blackjack or slot machines.

Anyway, the word got around and it seems that now in Playa del Carmen alone there are nearly hundred online poker players living there and spending their days and part of their nights online. Since they really spend a lot of time playing, they are able to make a living and can make the most of the beach resort.

As I mentioned in the title, this lifestyle is not for everyone and they are not your usual expats.  However, if you love poker but are not looking for a Vegas lifestyle and are more used to the simplicity of an iPad casino than the high life of Vegas or Monaco, this could be for you.

I don’t think it would be up everyone’s alley (it’s certainly not mine!) but I thought I’d share it with you since technically they are Global Entrepreneurs since they moved their online income generating activities from one country to another one!
