To grow your email list, you need to know who you’re trying to reach. Start by creating a detailed profile of your ideal client. What are their demographics, interests, and pain points? What motivates them to seek out your services? By answering these questions, you can create more targeted and effective marketing pieces (emails, social media posts, CTAs, blogs, etc.). When doing the dream client exercise I mentioned above, you’ll get an opportunity to dive deeper into their needs, desires, and pain points. What are the problems they’re trying to solve? What are their goals and aspirations? What are the obstacles standing in their way? Use this information to craft content that addresses their specific needs and offers solutions that resonate with them. By providing value and showing empathy, you’ll be more likely to win their trust and convince them to sign up for your email list.
Step 2 – Create a Lead Magnet
Long gone are the days when business owners could just say ‘Sign up for my newsletter’ or ‘Get my regular updates to build their email list. With so many things fighting for our attention in our inboxes, we think twice nowadays before signing up for yet another newsletter. It has to match one or more of the following criteria:
– It promises an instant fix to a pressing issue/problem
– It’s extremely valuable
– It’s worth our time
– It picked our interest
One of the most effective ways to do this is by creating a free offer aka lead magnet. Here are some tips to help you create a lead magnet that will drive signups:
- Develop a valuable, free offer
A lead magnet is a free offer that you give to your potential clients in exchange for their email addresses. This could be a free e-book, guide, video or email series, or webinar. The key is to make sure your lead magnet is directly related to your services and provides value to your potential clients. Go back to step 1 if you’re still unsure about their needs. Remember that “bigger doesn’t mean better” when it comes to freebies.
- Share your lead magnet
Once you have created your lead magnet, you need to promote it effectively. This means placing it prominently on your website and social media accounts, as well as promoting it in any marketing materials or ads you create. By making it easy for potential clients to access your lead magnet, you’ll be more likely to drive signups and grow your email list.
